THE ROUND BUSH.
In connection with the proposed acquisition of the Round Bush as a scenic reserve, it was recently suggested that the valuation of the portion proposed to be acquired should bo fixed by arbitration, one arbitrator each to be appointed by the Government, the Foxton Borough Council, and the Foxton Harbour Board. The Council, at a recent meeting, appointed the Mayor as the Council’s representative. At last night’s Council meeting the Mayor said the Harbour Board objected to the proposed method of fixing the valuation, contending that if the suggestion were adopted the purchasers (Council and Government) would have two representatives against the seller’s (Harbour Board) one, and had declined to appoint an arbitrator to represent the Board. A deadlock had thus arisen. The Mayor said he would be sorry to see the negotiations fall through now, nijd thought the Council should endeavour to get the matter settled, and (he piece of bush sol aside as a scenic reserve. —It was decided that a letter be sent to the Foxton Harbour Board, suggesting that two representatives he appointed to value the hind, one by the Government and the other an independent valuer selected jointly by the Harbour Board and Borough Council, and further, that in the event of any difference an umpire be appointed to the satisfaction of the interested parties to settle the valuation.
