CROQUET.

At the conclusion of play last season the ladies approached the Bowling Club and asked that the two small croquet lawns should be converted into one (approximately) full size lawn, and offered to collect a sum of money towards the cost of same. A general'meeting of members of the Bowling Club was held, and it was decided to carry out the suggestion of the ladies. A great amount of the work was carried out voluntarily by members of the Club, and the ground was levelled, topdressed, and sown. Unfortunately, owing to the bad season, and perhaps faulty seed, the grass did not come away at all, and the whole area is to be re-sown within the next few days. So far the work has been done without any outlay by the Bowling. Club, the money collected by Mrs Woods (£lB 15s. Od) being . sufficient. In connection with same, the ladies acknowledge with thanks the following donations: —Messrs Freeman, Lazaretto, Nye, Hawke and Barr £1 Is (Id each, Mesdames Uerreau, Ball, Healey, Parkes, Woods, and Messrs Dr. Mandl, Lumsden, F. Whibley, Simmons, Reay and • Crawley £1 each, Mrs Bryant and Messrs E. Walker, . Christie, Hcusman and Stewart 10s each. Total, £lB 15s Od. The ex--penditure was: Soil £7 4s Od, labour £9 Is Od, grass seed £2 10s Od; total £lB 15s Od.
