TREATY OF WAITANOI DOES NOT EXEMPT. Auckland ,Yesterday. The Maori Appeal Board gave its reserved decision on points raised claiming total exemption for Natives under the Treaty of Waitangi. The board, consisting of Judge M’Cornu ck and two Maori colleagues, unanimously dismissed the appeal. The Chairman said that Parliament! by the Military Service Act of 1916 declared Natives of military. age liable to compulsory service. Whether there was any remedy was entirely outside the functions of the board.
