HIMATANGI WRECKED
AT CHATHAM ISLANDS. PASSENGERS AND CREW ALL SAVED. Yesterday afternoon Mr 10. G. F. Zolirab, manager of the Chatham Islands Fishing Company, Ltd., received the following wireless message from Hie Chatham Islands:— “Ilimalangi wrecked on Monau reef, Wailangi West, at l.dO this morning. Probable total loss. Vessel full of water. All hands safe. Full report later.’' A Press Association message from Christchurch,, received last evening, corroborated the above, and added that the llimilangi was on her way from Wailangi to Kaingaroa and Owenga when the mishap occurred, and that the passengers and crew were saved. The llimilangi arrived at Wailangi on Sunday morning from Lyttelton. The llimilangi left Wellington at midday last Tuesday for Lyttelton, from which port she sailed at 10.15 o'clock on Thursday night for Waitangi, the main port and settlement at the (Omtham Islands. After discharging, the vessel was to have loaded frozen fish at Kaingaroa and Owenga for Wellington. The Hindtnngi was to have returned via Lyttelton to Wellington, and was expected there about next Sunday. The vessel was covered by insurance, but owing to the war it is practically impossible to replace her.
Captain Charles Thompson was master of the Hiniilangi, and lie had with him:—Chief officer, Mr J. Muir; second, Mr W. McKinnon; chief engineer, Mr N. Walker; second, Mr W. Ozamis; steward, Mr •J. White; cook, Mr A. Motz. The vessel carried three firemen and live seamen. The majority of the above belong to Wellington,
