The serious drop in the price of (lax was discussed at a meeting of the Northern Flaxmillers’ Association at Auckland. The advisability of the mills remaining closed for a further period was also considered, and it was agreed that on the present basis the mills could not work at a profit. This would involve the lying idle of the large capital sunk in the industry, and, further, an opening for unskilled labour would he closed The Act-ing-Prime Minister, in his reply, promised to communicate with Mr Massey and to endeavour to obtain shipping space.
