FOOTBALL.

(By “Toiichline.”)

A tiui I i'll hclwecn Amjilmjii and Crusaders on I lie 1 racecourse on Snlnrday Insi i<*snlied in n win for the former by ihrcc points to nil. The ground wns very heavy on aceonnl of the ivecnt heavy rains, tail at times the game was very fast. The Blues attacked very hard from the beginning, hut I lie Crusaders were in good form, and I lie play was to and fro until half-lime, no score being registered. After (he interval Awahou attacked heavily, and after a time had their opponents’ back in their own twenty-five. A Crusader player secured the ball, but the Blues forced him back over the line, the result being a serum live yards out. This performance was repeated again, but the Awahous secured the leather, and after a little passing, McGregor dribbled the ball over the line and scored. The kick failed to increase the score. The Crusaders played very hard after this, and at the end of the game had the Blues hard pressed, but they failed to score, the game ending as above. Mr Neville refereed.

The positions of the teams for the Perreau Cup are as follows; —• Crusaders 6 points, Awahou 4 points.

The teams are on even terms for the Petrie Shield, having scored 3 points each. I omitted to mention previously that the Shield would go to the team scoring the most points in the four matches.

In the event of the Awahou team winning the next Cup match, the final game should be very interesting, as the teams are evenly matched, a fact which is shown by the result of the five matches already played, only 25 points having been scored, an average of 5 points per match. Awahou played with fourteen men on Saturday last, their captain being stood on the line for disputing the referee’s decision, early in the game.
