Sergeant Ruth Law, who is working at a United States aviation recruiting department, claims to have enlisted 1,500 troops already. Elephants have only eight teeth. All young elephants' teeth fall out when the animal is about fourteen years old, and a new set grows. Summer-time has now been introduced in Russia. It is calculated that it will mean in Petrograd alone a monthly saving of 800,000 tons of coal. The Austrian Emperor is said to have transferred all Ids money, Court jewellery, and investment certificates from the Austrian to the Swiss banks. There are in the United States nearly two and a-half million “born in Germany” Germans, and over 12 millions of Germans of “German extraction.” Considerable interest is being shown in France in the reported discovery of a new motor fuel obtained from the distillation of the heavy oils derived from coal. It is stated that tests with the new fuel have shown it to be practically equal in power development lo petrol. A laee factory in Connecticut has received an order from the Cubed States Government for (>OO,OOO yards of cotton netting to protect from mosquitoes the army and navy forces stationed in warm climates. It-will cost about £OO,OOO. The factory will run 24 hours a day.
