THE KELBURN RAID CASE.

JUDGE UPHOLDS APPEALS

Wellington, July 17,

Mr Justice Husking gave judgment to-day, upholding the appeals of Mary Griffin and Winnie Olsen against the convictions under the War Regulations dealing with disorderly houses. The Judge said that both appellants had a regular income, and sufficient to live comfortably, without: seeking money by means of prostitution, and there was no reasonable ground for drawing the inference that unchastity, if it was committed, was practised for'hire. The appeal of Griffin was therefore allowed. The Crown did not- offer evidence in Olsen’s case, whose appeal was also allowed. The Court, ordered both prisoners to be discharged from custody.
