SEDITIOUS STRIKE CHARGES
MEN FINED AT GISBORNE,
Gisborne, July 2
A prosecution under the War Regulations Act for an alleged seditious strike took place at the Magistrate’s Court before Mr Barton, S.M., as the outcome of a stoppage of Avork at the Gisborne Sheepfarmors ’ Works, on 28th February last. The men charged were George Pollard, David Irwin, Herbert Stanley Davis, Charles Hays, Waller Birkett, Hector Percy Swan, George Williams; Joseph Thomas Morgan, and Robert Lcavls, all of Avhom Avere described as freezing Avorks employees. After hearing the evidence, his Worship said dial strikes were detrimental things at any time, lint at the present lime, Avhen a Avar Avas in progress, it Avas the duty of every British subject to render all possible aid in the cause. Tic Avould take into consideration the fact that the men returned to Avork (lie folloAving day, and Avould impose a penalty of £3 each, in default seven days’ imprisonment.
