MARTIN MEMORIAL.
A special meeting of the District Hospital Board was held in Palmerston on Tuesday, the members present being Sir James Wilson (chairman), Dr, Whitaker, Mrs Crabb, Messrs J. A. Nash, J, K. Hornblow, J. 11. Vincent, A. B. Pearce, W. G. Pearce, H, W. Smart, D. Collis, Bryce, Hunt and Bra rawed. As the meeting had been call* ed for the purpose of considering (he plans for the Marlin Memorial, Messrs J. Coombc, If. F. Gibbons, and J. IT. Stevens (members of the Martin Memorial Committee) were present by invitation. The Chairman explained that the architects' estimate for the building on the present plans was £5,400, but there was only £4,000 available, being £2,000 from the Martin Memorial Committee and the Government’s subsidy of £2,000. Added to this would be £7OO for apparatus and installation, £SOO for architects’ fees and inspection, and £250 for furnishing. He had received a letter from, the Minister for Public Health, staling that he was not prepared to give more than £2,000 towards the, erect ion of the Martin Memorial. It was resolved that the plans be referred back to the Building Committee to cut the cost down to not more than £4,000, and to include the bacteriological department.
