CAR LEAVES RAILS.

LADY PASSENGER’S LEG BROKEN.

Wellington, Last Night,

A double-decker tramear left the rails at, the junction of Lambton Quay and Poatherston Street this evening, when travelling at a fairly high speed, and dashed towards the footpath. The motonnan applied the brakes, but failed to stop the car until it struck the curb, smashed two iron verandah posts, and considerably damaged a verandah. Fortunately the car contained few passengers. All were thrown from their seats, and two ladies were carried to the Central Hotel and medically attended. One of them, Mrs O’Leary, was found to have broken a leg. The other was seriously shaken, but was able to go home. The motonnan who struck the post was uninjured.
