The second match for the Per-rc-au Cup was played on the racecourse on Saturday last, before a fair gathering of spectators. The weather was very rough, a strong westerly wind blowing across the field, interfering considerably with the play, Awahou won the toss, and elected to play up the field. Crusaders attacked hard from the kick-off, and for a time had Awahou defending in their own twenty-five. The play was hard and lively throughout the spell, and half-time saw no score. After the interval the play was again backward and forward, the Blues having a slight advantage. Late in the spell Kruse secured the ball on the wing, and kicking high, followed up, and scored between the posts. McPherson converted. Crusaders s—Awahou 0. The Blues attacked with great energy, but were unable to wear down their opponents, who defended gamely. There was no further score, the game ending in favour of Crusaders by 5 points to nil. This puts the teams on even terms for the Cup, they having won one game each. Mr J. Desmond took the Crusaders in hand after the, first Cup match, and their forwards are already showing the benefit of his coaching. Mr W. Hooker has been installed as coach to the Awahou team, and his instruction promises to assist the Blues materially. Both teams , are very keen, and are practising regularly, so look out for a good game on Saturday next.
