SAD DEATH IN BACKBLOCKS.
Taumarunni, Last Night.
W. J. Price, Crown Lands Ranger, Wellington district, left his home at Piriaka at 3 o’clock on Sunday morning, and has failed to return. He had been suffering from an aggravated form of mumps for a week. As he complained of cold, his wife went to make him a hot poultice. She heard the click of a door, and followed quickly, but was too late to find her husband. She reported the matter to her neighbours. Search parties were out all Sunday. A dressing gown was found in the Wanganui river half a mile away. After a further search to-day the body was found at 2 o’clock near the Matapuna railway bridge, about five miles from Piriaka. The deceased’s temperature was abnormal, and he would have died from exposure whatever happened. Deceased leaves a wife and three children.
