THE GASWORKS.

MAY WORKING,

The amount of gas manufactured during the month of May was 532,400 ft., which, with the amount in holder on May Ist, 13,500 ft., made a total of 545,900 ft. The amount sold to consumers for lighting was 2.10,700 ft., for cooking and heating 170,500 ft., and for power 75,400 ft., 21,000 ft. was used in the street lamps, 18000 ft. at the works and manager’s house, ami there was .13,500 ft. in the holder on June Ist, leaving 23,000 ft., representing 41 per cent, of the output, unaccounted for. Forty-seven tons lOcwt. of of coal was carbonised, yielding 11,120 ft. per ton. MANAGER’S REPORT. The amount of gas manufactured during the month of May shows an increase of 30,000 ft. as against April, there being an increase all round on gas sold. The carbonising plant is working satisfactorily, with the exception of the purifiers. With the present make and the quality ofy-oal, we have great Iroiible in reviving the oxide, on account of shortage of space, which means that the oxide that is in us \ is foul before I lie refilling is sufficiently revived, and working under the present conditions is very unsatisfactory, both for the consumer and myself. 1 connected four new gas cookers last mouth, and have orders for six to be fitted this month. I am pleased to stale that the quality of coke we are making suits the suction plants, which means that they can take our output. The roof of the engineroom is in very bad repair. The cost of repairing same with timber and rubberoid would be £5 4s Od, as against £lO for iron, and I would recommend that it be done right away, in rubberoid.
