MOTOR CAR AND TROOP TRAIN COLLIDE.
THREE PERSONS INJURED. A serious collision occurred at the Fitzherbert Street railway crossing at Featherston on Saturday evening, when a troop train which left the station at half-past 5 crashed into a motor ear driven by Mr Charles Skippage, of Greytown. The ear was badly smashed, and the occupants had a miraculous escape from death, though three were severely injured. A soldier named David Hamil, of Otago, sustained concussion of the brain, and his brother, a lad of 13, suffered severe injuries to the hip. The driver of the car had three ribs broken, and also had a leg severely injured. A fourth occupant of the ear escaped with little more than scratches. Hamil was removed to the Featherston Hospital,' and his brother and the driver of the ear to the Greytown Hospital. All three are now reported to be making good progress.
