GIRLS’ GUILD!

Record shop day,

The Girls’ Guild put up a record at the local Patriotic Shop on Saturday, the gross takings, including subscriptions, amounted to over £IOO. This is the first time the Guild has had the shop on behalf of their funds, and following on the previous effort by Mesdames Jas. Robinson and Green, it was thought that the effort would not return more than £2O or £3O. There was very little time to canvass for support, and the weather conditions were bad. However, several of the millers donated a bale .of hemp between them (value £8 10s), and sympathisers handed them various donations. Vegetables, cakes, and fancy goods were sent along, making an attractive collection. A number of articles were disposed of by competition. The girls were attired in Red Cross costumes, and hustled for business. During the evening a large crowd assembled in front of the shop. After the Band had rendered a few spirited selections, the girls sang several patriotic songs, and were rewarded by a liberal collection, headed by a contribution of 22s by Mr Tom. East. The balance of goods ■left unsold -were auctioned. The Guild wish to thank all who assisted them, not forgetting Messrs East and R. Spiers.
