MOUTOA NOTES.

(Own Correspondent).

This Day!

The public meeting held in the schoolhouse on Tuesday last was well attended and very satisfactory. The object of the meeting was to consider how 1o help the Foxton, patriotic funds. Messrs Chryst'all and W. E. Barber, of Foxton, were present, and gave information concerning the working of the Society. iA strong committee of ladies and gentlemen was set up, with'power to add, with Mr Shaw as chairman, and Mr C. Morgan hon. see., to devise ways and means of raising money, ft was decided that the Moutoa ladies take the Foxtoq Patriotic Shop at intervals, dates to be fixed by the joint secretaries. Mesdames Shaw and Murdoch were appointed for the first effort. It was also decided to hold a progressive euchre party on May 31st, to further augment the funds. Mr dagger generously donated a guinea for the prizes, and Mr C. Firth will supply the consolation prizes. The •delegates from Foxton were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their attendance. The tickets arc out for the euchre party next Friday. The secretary, Mr C. Morgan, has the matter well in hand, and has donated a prize for boy or girl selling the most tickets. If the weather is propitious (it will need to change somewhat, for the elements are at war), we should have a very successful evening. Three feet of water is reported on the Shannon-Moutoa road this morning, and the water is also in the swamps, Whitaumii, Ltd., has sus-. pended work until Monday morning. A blocked pipe and the swollen condition of the river are causing the delay. But it matters not, provided that gallant band of heroes who are holding that precious line on the Western front are enjoying a more genial atmosphere. It is unworthy -of us to grumble. It should be our placid privilege to pray and to help them uphold the right.
