IMPERIAL WOOL PURCHASES.
Reference was made recently to the purchase of greasy wool hy Ihe Imperial Government Supplies Department amounting to 505,000 hales. The Department, by Gazethj Extraordinary, is now the purchaser of all freezing companies' slipe wool, on account of the Imperial Government. The price to be paid is 55 j)er cent, over and above the average gross price per pound, less Ifd per pounr for shipping expenses, freight, and other charges. Risk of loss by fire on wool so purchased will be borne by the Imperial Government; also storage charges of 3d per bale per week; also 2s 6d per bale for display of wool in freezing companies’ stores, or 5s per bale when displayed in shipping companies’ stores. Payment for the wool is “prompt,” viz., 24 days aftervaluation.
At the date of latest available figurees, the Imperial Supplies Department held 86,000 bales of wool set aside for scouring, and 320,000 bales awaiting shipment. The bulk of the wool so held was in Wellington, , Christchurch, Invercargill, Napier, Auckland, and Gisborne,
