VALEDICTORY.

A pleasing little ceremony took place in the pavilion on the local green on Saturday afternoon, when a number of members foregathered to make a‘ presentation to Mr James Stewart, a member of the Club, who has been transferred to Wellington. The presentation, which took the form of a case of pipes, was made by the President of the Club, Mr William Nyo, who expressed regret that the Club was losing such a useful and enthusiastic member as Mr Stewart. During the time he had been in Foxton he had taken a keen interest in the welfare of the Club, and was always willing and anxious to promote its welfare in every way possible. The members felt that they could not let him go without marking in some way the esteem in which he is held. Mr Stewart feelingly responded, saying that anything he had done for the Club had always been a pleasure to him. At the same time he did not think he had done as much as a number of the other members. The times he had spent on the green would always be a pleasant memory to him, and he expressed a hope that the Club would continue to prosper. Mr. Stewart signified his intention of presenting- a trophy for competition on the croquet lawn next season. Before dispersing, those present joined in singing “For He’s a JollyGood Fellow.” i
