SOLDIERS SENTENCED.
THREE GET TWO YEARS’ HARD LABOUR. Three soldiers at Treotham Camp having been found guilty by District Court-Martial on charges of “disobeying in such a manner as to show wilful defiance of authority, a lawful command given personally by his superior officer in the execution of his office,” have each been sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for two years. Their names are as under: — 75323 Pte. H, S. Aitkenhead, Details. 57428 Pte. R. T. Morrish, Details. 78490 Pte. T. G. Coffey, Details. Another soldier found guilty of deserting His Majesty’s service-has been sentenced to detention for 168 days. The sentence, in this case, however, was mitigated so that if the accused embarks for active service outside of New Zealand, then upon arrival at the final port of disembarkation the unexpired portion (if any) of his sentence shall be remitted and his New Zealand records shall be.endorsed accordingly.
