REMEMBER THE ORPHANS.
Many appeals have been made for funds for deserving objects during the war, all of which have been liberally responded to. This is only right, for those who cannot light should feel it a privilege to pay, iu order that the lot of the soldier and his dependents may be ameliorated as much as possible and the widow and orphan placed beyond the reach of need. Simultaneously with the outbreak of hostilities, in August, 1914, a fund was inaugurated in France with the special object of .providing for' the thousands of children bereft of parents through the war, to house, feed and educate them with the .ultimate view of forming a healthy, strong and patriotic generation. The Minister of Internal Affairs has granted permission for an appeal to be made on behalf of the fund in New Zealand, and Mr L. J. Du Flou, of Hamilton, has been appointed by the trustees in France to act as their commissioner. Appeals for assistance for this - worthy cause are being made throughout New Zealand, and are meeting with a good response. Saturday, May 18th, has been decided upon as the date of the public appeal locally, and Mesdames J. H. Robinson and A. E. Green have kindly taken in hand the arrangements in connection with same. On this day the ladies named will have charge of the Patriotic Shop, and the whole of the proceeds will be devoted to the fund for the assistance of the war. orphans. In con e nection with same, Mesdames Robinson and Green will be pleased to acknowledge donations or gifts for the shop. ,■. ■ , ■
