CENSORSHIP OF LITERATURE.

Recent reports of meetings of the Protestant Political Association have contained complaints that, while the Minister of Customs has excluded Protestant literature. - (he Government has permitted the publication in the Green Ray and the New Zealand Tablet, “articles or matter particularly offensive to Protestants .in the community.” ft is also stated that “certain publicaions in the Green Ray might by citizens be called seditionary publications. Yet neither of these papers is suppressed or seized.” In a letter to the Prime Minister, the P.P.A. executive gives details of a charge of unjust discrimination, and requests Mr Massey to bring the matter before Cabinet immediately, with a view to having Mr Myers’ decision rescinded. “We trust, therefore,” the letter concludes, “that the liberty of the press and of free speech other than that which is seditionary will be conferred on, all members and parties of the community, and not limited to any one organisation or body, so that equal rights shall be extended to all citizens- and organisations with special privileges to none.” Mr Massey stated to a Post representative yesterday that the letter would be submitted to Cabinet.
