FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
The annual general meeting of the Patriotic Society was held on Thursday evening, at the Council Chamber. The president, Mr John Chrystall, presided over an attendance of nine members. The report and balance-sheet as already published were read and confirmed without discussion. The Secretary reported funds in hand amounted to £3,251 Os 7d, and that the Red Triangle appeal had realised £2BB 14s 3d. The election of officer?* resulted as follows: —President, Mr J. Chrystall. Executive Committee, Mesdames E, Robinson and A. Ross, Miss J. A. Ross, Messrs W. E. Barber, 1 (1 . Robinson, E. MeMurray, Rev. Raine, F. S. Easton and A. J. Kellow, and a representative from each of the Ladies’ and Girls’ Guilds. The secretary tendered his resignation, which was accepted with regret. It was resolved to advertise for applications for a secretary, to be employed at a salary of £1 per week. The matter of amalgamation with the National War Funds Council was further postponed for six months. Resolved that the Society fall in with arrangements to be made by the Mayor in conjunction with tho local ministers of religion to arrange a memorial service to be held on the afternoon of Anzac Day (Thursday next), to which a very special invitation is extended to all returned soldiers to be present in uniform. Resolved that each returned soldier recruited in the Foxlon district on application to the secretary, is entitled to a grant of £5 on his dis-c-barge from the Expeditionary Force, to equip himself with civilian clothing. It was also resolved that arrangements be made to acquire during the winter months one of Ihe empty shops in Main Street to bo used as the patriotic shop.
