CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.) Sir.—l wish to make an explanation on the motion moved at Monday evening’s Council meeting. When a show of hands was called for, I looked round the table for supporters of the measure, and only counted four. I did not see Cr MeMurray with his hand raised when I looked in his direction, probably lie had just lowered it. I did not pay the same attention to the number voting in the negative, concluding the motion was not carried by five votes to four. Your reporter, who saw the true position regaining Cr McMurray’s vote, naturally concluded that I had used my own vote to defeat the motion. T did not, however, record my vote either by sound or sign. I prefer to be guilty of a breach of the Standing Orders in refusing to vote under the circumstances, The motion, therefore, will be declared carried. Thanking you in anticipation—l am, etc., JOHN CHRYSTALL. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Would you give your readers some idea of the title and nature of the literature that is being suppressed by the Customs, literature which is said to be of “great use” and “benefit” to people? Why will the Minister not allow it to be introduced, when it is of such “grcati use” and “benefit”? In what way is it of “great use” and “benefit”? I am, etc., J. GOLDBR.
