A peculiar animal friendship exists at a country place on the shore of Kawhia harbour. A wild pig was (‘aught when quite young in the neighbouring bush, and as it became tame was allowed the run of the grounds about the house. Now it has for its special mate a black and white dog; if any other canine happens along piggy performs an eviction, but if his mate gets into trouble he gives all possible assistance. A London cable states that Chung Ling Soo was accidentally shot during a performance at the Wood Green Empire Theatre, and died from his injuries. Chung Ling Soo appeared in New Zealand some years ago, and in the ordinary course of events he would have been here again soon, as he was under contract for a tour within the next few months. He was a most remarkable man, a conjurer of rare merit. While posing as a Chinese juggler, Chung Ling Soo was an Australian, and at one time was a bank manager. His real name was Kellman, and from boyhood his hobby had been juggling and sleight-of-hand. His big draw Avas the sensational act of allowing a scpiad of men to lire point blank at him Avith service rifles and bullets. Probably this is the act which has finally cost him his life.
