CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.)

Sir. —I noticed in your issue of Thursday last that His Worship the Mayor drew attention to the danger of allowing roofing iron to be exposed to the weather too long without painting. In drawing attention to this, the Mayor quotes the present price of iron, Avith Avhich I quite agree. In view of this fact, sir, it seems strange to me that His Worship had to Avait for a councillor to make a move in hav'ing the roof of the Council Chambers painted. It is well known to the average man Avho that councillor Avas. Also Avith the painting of the said Chambers, it looked to me that the Mayor in a round-about Avay is trying to create the impression that he is responsible for this Avork being done. Anyway, it is not before it Avas time, it being 12 years since the Chambers Avere built, and they have never had a touch of paint since erection. My main object, however, is not .to deal Avith that. Now, in vieAv of the fact that His Worship is tendering such good advice for the benefit of the people, might I suggest that he, as chairman of our local body, set his own house in order first. If linseed oil and red oxide is such a good thing, I Avould tender my humble advice to him to get the Toaa’ii Hall painted, and set the people of Foxton a good example, as it would be a very' serious thing for the ratepayers if the Town Hall should unfortunately go like the roof of the Council Chambers —full of holes through neglect. Without Avishing to take up any more of: your valuable space, 5 would suggest that His Worship refrain from turning Councillors’ knoAvledge and advice to his own advantage.— -I am. etc., IN THE KNOW.
