Manawatu Herald TUESDAY, MARCH 20, 1918. THE WAR LOAN.
NEW ZEALAND requires a further nine and a-half millions for war purposes, and we feel sure the appeal of the Minister of Finance to the people of this country to provide that sum by the Bth proximo will he responded to as willingly as was the case on the two previous occasions when Sir Joseph Ward asked for loans for war purposes. In 1910 ton days was the period allotted for the subscription of eight millions, and this was ovt-r-subscrihed to the extent of over three millions. Last year the Government asked for twelve millions, and the response was over sixteen millions. On this occasion the amount asked for is nine and a-half millions, and such is the determination and confidence of t|ie people of the Dominion that the result is not in doubt. To raise thirty-four million pounds within such a short space of time will redound for.ever to the credit of the Dominion, and every man, woman and child should be aide to say with pride; “I helped to win the war!” The investment is a gilt edged-one, and any information rcfpiired can be obtained on application at any bank or money order office.
