ST. PATRICK’S CONCERT.

There was a good, representative, and keenly appreciative audience present in the Town Hall on Thursday night at the above concert, organised in aid of St. Mary’s Churcb funds. The programme was versatile, and encores and double encores were demanded. Instrumental items were contributed by Mrs Butler’s Shannon Orchestra, the pieces selected being of a National character, and well received. Miss Bryant was in good voice, and her vocal numbers were thoroughly appreciated. Mr F. G. Bourke, of Auckland, simply captivated the audience with his songs, and they would have kept, him going to the point of physical exhaustion. His items wei’e well-known Irish national songs, sung with a masterful interpretation. The duet in company with Miss McEnroe was one of the gems of the evening. Miss McEnroe had a flattering x-eeeption, and her name will ever be associated by the audience with the songs sho sang so soulfxxlly. Her recalls became shamefully insistent. LanceCorporal Keaney and Sergt. Ramsay kept the audience in fits of laughter with their humox’ous songs and sketches. Misses M. Kearins and M. Hanlon were heard to advantage in their vocal numbers, and wore accorded very fiattexnng receptions. Mr W. Hooker was in good voice, and was popularly received. The Irish jig, in character, by Misses Desmond and Gupwell, was daintily executed, and disclosed careful training, Pte. Pepper demonstrated that he was a master of the violin, and his magnificent rendering of a couple of classics was one of the features of the entertainment. Talcing the programme as a whole, it was,one of the best submitted to a local audience. The accompaniments were played by Miss Lenihan. The Kev. Father Forrester, in a brief speech, thanked tiie performers and the audience on behalf of the Rev. Father Dore, A special word of praise is due to Messrs R. Hynes (secretary), and W. Hooker for carrying out the arrangements.
