DAIRY PRODUCE.
A GOOD SEASON; FUTURE ARRANGEMENTS. tSTATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER. “The season has been a good one, and the supply of dairy produce has kept up wonderfully well,” said the Prime Minister (Right Hon. W. F. Massey) at Wellington yesterday. “The Government is, however, alive to the necessity of providing for winter requirements, and a sufficient quantity will be kept in New Zealand for that purpose, the surplus going to the Imperial Government. The butter intended for local supply must be kept separate Horn the Imperial butter, as the British Food Controller advances 90 per cent, of the value of the latter to producers, the balance being paid on shipment. As it has turned out, it was very fortunate for all concerned that the present arrangement with the Food Controller was made, otherwise owing to the shortage of shipping batter would have been in the same position as fallow andjjax and other commodities not purchased by the Imperial Government, and which are stored up in very large quantities in the different centres of the Dominion. Up to the end of February for the present season 10,500 tons have been produced,” -
