A bronze tablet in memory of America’s great neurologist, Weir Mitchell, has been unveiled in the University Buildings at Philadelphia. Revolving brushes, operated by a hand lever, clean a man’s hat and shoes at the same time in a machine designed for public places. An electric light that is switched on to illuminate an automobile slop as the door is opened, lias been patented by an English inventor. A fast penman writes at the rate of 30 words per minute, and in an hour’s steady writing he has drawn his pen along a space of 300 yards. Hammersmith (London) Borough Council has collected during the past year 132 tons of wasteymper, on the sale of which a profit of £244 has been realised. The American Y.M.C.A. has raised £10,000,000 from two million subscribers in two months. Bazaars and theatre matinees have been, strictly prohibited. Cotton supplies in Great Britain t have been unexpectedly increased by the arrival of 89,000 bales from the United States, not included in i any official figures. The war correspondents in France have now adopted the practice of typewriting their despatches straight oft' instead of writing them.
