TENNIS CLUB.

A meeting of those interested in reforming the local tennis club was held in the Council Chambers last night. There was a fair attendance of both sexes. Mr Homblow briefly explained the position of affairs to the meeting. He said the property held in trust was a valuable one, the assets included the freehold of the section, pavilion, and asphalt courts. During the past two years there had not been a meeting of the club, and the property had been neglected. The northern fence had been depleted of timber, and horses had been allowed to trespass on the property; and the court would require to be top-dressed. There was a mortgage of £IOO on the. property, with accrued interest at (i per cent, for the past two years. The outstanding liabilities, apart from the mortgage, would total about £25. The trustees were anxious that the property should be retained by the club, but unless the club was reformed and a fresh start made, the only alternative appeared to be tho selling of the property in order to square liabilities. This would be a regrettable step. Another suggestion was that the Borough Council should be approached to aequife the courts.

Mr Kellow said if the club was re-formed if would mean that the outstanding liabilities incurred by the old club would have to be shouldered. There would be no difficulty in finding a purchaser for the property. He would like to pee the club re-formed aud placed on a satisfactory footing.

Mr E. Jackson said that as the result of a canvass about 30.. players had signified their willingness to join. After some discussion it was unanimously resolved that the club be re-formed on condition that bank guarantors or a fresh mortgage be obtained for £l5O. Mr Kellow was then elected chairman, and Mr Richmond secretary, to act with the following committee in carrying out preliminary arrangements, and to confer with the trustees: Messrs B. Jackson, C. Simmons, R. McMurray, C. Cronquest, Mrs Cronquest, Misses Ray and M. Wanklyn. It was resolved that the committee report to a further meeting to be held on Wednesday next, at 7,30 p.m.
