BOWLING.

Yesterday afternoon a rink from Foxton visited Levin and played a friendly game with a rink from that Club skipped by Mr Broughton. The green was in excellent order, and the game was well contested right up to the last couple of heads. The home team finished up eight points ahead. The viators were very hospitably entertained. The following are the teams and scores:— Levin, Foxton. Porteous Cronquest Channings Howe Bull Healey Broughton (s) 21 F. Whibley (s) 13 A game for the Nye Ferns was played on the local green yesterday afternoon, when the holders successfully defended their right to hold the trophies, the margin in their favour at the conclusion of the game being eight points. In tho holders’ team Mandl played substi-' lute for Christie, who was unable to be present. In the earlier stages of the game the scoring was very even, the board reading 5 all after the fifth head, and 8 all after the tenth. When the sixteenth head had been played, the challengers had a lead of three, but the holders scored on the remaining five heads, and won by the above mentioned margin. Teams and scores: — Holders. Challengers. Stewart E. Jackson Bryant P. G. Jackson Mandl Large Nye (s) 22 Riramer (s) 14 A patriotic-pairs tournament is, to be held on the Shannon green on Monday next (St. Patriekls Day). Two pairs from Foxton,. Large and Rimmer (s), and D. Whibley and F. Whibley (s), will take part. Foxton has the next challenge in for the Dixon Cup, and the game will be played at Feilding on either the next Saturday or Wednesday. DONT’S FOR SKIPS. Don’t think that you are the only skip on earth —there are others. Don’t say that’s no good—l wanted you up. The player knows it without you saying it; it only irritates him. Remember you play short yourself. Don’t'flap your wings and turn your back when one does not go where you want it. You are apt to get another bad one. Don’t lose your temper and sit down and nurse your head. If you are a few down, fight it out, someone has to lose. Don’t say, I thought you would do that, when your third taps one and give them the shot. You da the same yourself, and call it bad luck. Don’t ask for a runner when there is a chance to draw the shot or trail the kitty for two or three. Don’t look glum when your opponent plays a good one and you are four down. Applaud it, and go down and draw the shot. Don’t say, what a fluke, when a player gets a wick and lays a shot. You do the same and call it a good shot. It’s all in the game. Don’t blame the green and say it is too keen or too slow, the grass is too long, or it does not draw as it should. Remember it is as fair for one as the^other. Don’t play to the gallery or try to be funny at the expense of your opponent. You only get laughed at yourself, and make yourself unpopular. Don’t be afraid to give a colt a chance and help him all you can. He might develop into a better bowler than yourself. Don’t refuse to play in any position to strengthen your team — unity is strength. Don’t be a perpetual skip, change your position occasionally, it will benefit your play. Finally Don’t take credit for winning entirely to yourself, as you 'could not win by yourself. Give your team credit’ and be a sport. —“Jackass.”
