THE GAS WORKS.
FEBRUARY WORKING. The amount of gas manufactured during the month of February was 412,500 ft., which,-with the, amount in holder on February Ist, 12,000 ft., made a total of 425,400 ft. The amount sold to consumers for lighting, was 178,200 ft., for cooking and heating 131,600fh, and ; for power 65,000 ft,, 11,600 ft. was used in the street lamps, 16,300 ft. at the works and manager’s house, and there was 12,900 ft. in the holder on March Ist, leaving 9,800 ft., representing 2f per cent, of the output, unaccounted for. Thirty-seven tons five ewt. of coal was carbonised, yielding 11,060 ft. per ton. MANAGER’S REPORT. ' The gas works manager reported at last night’s Council meeting as follows: —The amount of gas manufactured for the month of February shows a slight decrease as against last month, oh the total, but an increase on lighting gas. You will notice that the unaccounted for gas is very low, which will counterbalance the high percentage of last month. So far, I have been unable to make much progress with the painting of plant. The carbonising plant is working satisfactorily.”
