YOUNG MAORI SHOT.
SUPPOSED RESULT OF DRINKING BOUT. Waimate, March 8, A young Maori named Mason Cook was brought to the Waimate hospital to-day with a bullet in Ins head. He slated to the police that he had been drinking with Charles Boyes at the laser’s house near Morven, seven miles from here. The police have been out all the afternoon in quest of Boyes, who is alleged to have fired the shot. The Maori’s version of the a flair is that he and Boyes were drinking and playing cards. At 11 o’clock he said he was going home. Boyes turned nasfy, and let off a revolver tit him. Boyes’ own story is that he was showing the Maori what he would do to the police the next time he met them., The revolver was accidentally discharged, • „
