MOUTOA NOTES.
(Own Correspondent.) The following is the detailed prize list of the events held in connection with the Moutoa school picnic on Friday last— : Young ladies’ race (juniors).— Miss M, Lampp 1, Miss Gladys McSaveney 2. Young men’s race. —Mr Leslie Piggott I, Mr Stan. Newth 2. Senior married ladies’ race. —Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Dudson 2. Ladies’ race. —Mrs Whitlaw 1, Mrs dagger 2. Married men’s race. —Mr Boswell 1, Mr Scadden 2. Consolation race, young ladies (juniors).—Mess B. Spring I. Consolation race, young ladies (seniors).—Miss Dudson I, Miss Bowe 2, Girls’ three-legged race.—Phyllis Morgan and Plorrie Whitlow 1, Mary Jeffrey and Una Scadden 2. Boys’ three-legged race.—Roy Rhodes and Tom Jeffreys 1, Cecil Shaw and Leslie Scadden 2. Tug-of -Avar, married v. single.- — The result Avas in favour of the married men.
Shortly before , tea Avas served, 4 Mr J. Galland,headmaster, bIcAV the whistle, and brought the children into line, and with the assistance of Mr F. Sluiav, chairman of the Committee, the prizes Avere distributed, each child receiving a reAvard for the year’s Avork. FolloAving is a list of special prizes, Avhich were quite a feature this year: —Cecil Slmw and Phyllis Morgan (essay), prize donated by Mr F. Sluiav. Eileen Morgan and Jack Shaw, prizes donated by Mrs Spring. Ronald ShaAV (dux), prize donated by Mr C. Morgan. Bert Mohekey, prize donated by Mr J. Galland. Attendance: (Juniors) under two miles, 11. Morgan; over two miles, Mary Jeffreys; prizes donated Uy Mrs Scadden. Attendance: (juniors), under lavo miles, Ruby Whitlow; over two miles, Tom Spring; prizes donated by Mr Watson (Shannon). Attendance: (seniors), under twd miles, Amy Duncan; over lavo miles, Tom Jeffreys; prizes donated by Mrs Pickett (Shannon). Trophies were donated by Miss K. Spring, Mrs Meiwood, Mrs Alders ley, Miss Dunckley, Miss Gardner, Mr Fargher, Mrs Shaw, Mr Riminer, Mr Perreau, Mr Barr, Mrs Parkes, Mr Collins, and Mrs Gibson. Opportunity avus taken by residents of the district and people interested in the school to present Mr Galland, headmaster, with a gift to mark their appreciation of the veryable manner in Avhich he had carried out his duties and the splendid results achieved last year in the school. Mr Galland avus ably assisted by Miss Guylee, avlio has since accepted a position elsewhere, and a suitable gift Avill be sent on to her. Mr Galland, in responding, thanked those present for their handsome gift. It Avas indeed kind of them, he said. He also remarked that it gave him great pleasure to find the interest taken in the school and school matters, and it was also very encouraging to the teachers. He had always endeavoured to do his duty by every child placed in his care, and he trusted that tlie present interest Avould be maintained, and the standard of excellence, as in the past, Avould be upheld. The Chairman of the Committee formally Avelcomed Miss Limbrick, our new assistant teacher, among us, and asked her to accept, on behalf of the ladies of Moutoa and Marotiri, a small gift to cement that feeling of goodAvill and felloAVship so essential for our mutual Avellbeing. Miss Limbrick thanked the ladies for their gift and expressions of goodwill, and said she Avould always endeavour to merit same. After tea there Avas a general scramble for home, for avc are a Avorking people in Moutoa, but it Avas the unanimous opinion of all that our picnic had been “a perfect day.”
