GENERAL WAR NEWS.

WOMEN TYPISTS IN THE CELLS. Norah Halligan and Ethel Davis, tyoists at Aldershot headquarters, having overstayed their leave in London, were on their return handed on by the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps authorities to the civil police for neglect of public duty. They spent two nights in the cells, and were fined one guinea each by Aldershot magistrates. -

KAISER AND THE EX-TSAR. A rumour is current in Copenhagen that the Kaiser has found a way of cimmuuicating with the exTsar in his Siberian retreat. It would-hot be altogether unexpected if the kaleidoscope of events should turn in the direction of an attempt to restore the Emperor. 'This is the belief in certain circles usually well informed.

INVISIBLE AEROPLANE. The Tiine.s correspondent at the Italian headquarters says there is evidently a determined desire that the Italians shall not see from the air the traffic on the roads, for endeavours are being 1 made to form ; a harrier with lines of hostile craft, among- which arc many German machines. Two Italian scouting aeroplanes, convoyed by ten chasers, were, for example, attacked the moment they were seen by 23 Austrian and German chasers, some of the new whitey “invisible” type. THE MOTORISTS’ EYEWASH. There is ample evidence that al-' ready the big gas balloon on motor cars is being used in some cases merely as “eyewash.” A strange feature of some cars that have been observed is that the gas bag is likethe widow’s cruse of nil, it never runs oiu. With a bland air of sweet innocence the joy rider daunts his billowing'bag, and sits secure on a tank well filled with the petrol he has hoarded, but which in the country’s interest he is forbidden to use. If the Government’s threat is carried out this little game will be stopped. BARRED ZONES IN NEW YORK. Appeals of wealthy German bhsiness men of New York City to be permitted to remain within the water-front war-zones established by the President’s, manifesto are denied by LTnited States Marshal McCarthy, who declares that no exceptions will be made. German residents of Hoboken, N.J., are decamping hastily from the barred zones. FLIGHT-COMMANDER MOON. Plight-Commander Moon, D. 5.0., who, after thrilling adventures in German East Africa, was taken prisoner by the enemy, has rejoined the British forces. He was apparently with the enemy forces taken by us during the recently-suceessful round-up. Commander Moon comes from Southampton, where his family is well known. The scene of Commander Moon’s adventures was the delta of the Rufigi River. His companion, Commander Bridgman, succumbed to exhaustion and exposure. Twice Commander Moon swam a crocodile-infested river. A rough raft was constructed, and on this both officers were adrift for many days, suffering terrible hardships. At last the raft drifted towards shore. Commander Moon succeeded in landing, and fell into German hands.
