STOP GIN MANUFACTURE. The Paris Chamber of Deputies has adopted a resolution asking the Government to prohibit the use of cereals in the manufacture of gin. SPY IN AMERICAN CAMP. Max Linder, a soldier in the quartermaster's department at Camp Logan, near Denver, Colo., has been arrested as a spy. He is declared to be a German naval reservist. BOMB AT AMERICAN CHURCH. A bomb fouhd in the basement of the Italian Evangelical Church, in Malwaukee, exploded when taken to the police station, killing nine members of the department and one woman. CAPTIVE BALLOONS ON TRAWLERS. One more danger is added to the already large list which every Iboat must face in the war zone, the latest being the use of captive balloons on trawlers. These slowmoving boats operating olf the coast of France are now provided in some instances with’a captive balloon, which is sent aloft with observers. At a height of a thousand feet or more the observers command a Aide stretch of watei’, and on calm days can see even below the surface of the waves for a considerable distance. Submarines in this manner may be spotted and followed. 3,724,000 GERMAN TROOPS./ Washington states that official statistics, compiled by the French Government, show that Germany now has 3,724,000 troops on the West front. ESCAPED INSIDE A PIANO. A Japanese sailor, named Yamashita, who was taken, prisoner by the Moewe, has now reached England from a German, prison-camp. He reached Norway hidden inside a piano. PRECAUTIONS IN NEW YORK. United States troops are in control of the barred zones in New York City, which will be enclosed within barbed wire, marking the 100-yard line around the entire water-front district.
