The use of raia mias, or other shelters on lakes or rivers by duck-shooters, avus discussed at some length at a meeting of the •Auckland Acclimatisation Society, and a resolution strongly condemning their use avus passed. It was pointed out that the resolution avus in accordance Avith that adopted by the conference of acclimatisation societies, upon whose representations the present legislation prohibiting the use of cylinders avus ena'cted. It avus decided to forward a copy of the resolution to the Minister for Internal Affairs.'
Remarkable “nerve” was displayed by Herbert Eagles, aged eleven, in connection with an accident which befel him at Lowgarlh, Taranaki, recently, when his right hand was cut off through the palm. He coolly picked up the severed member, and held it firmly against the bleeding stump for some minutes — innocently imagining that it would stick —before he reported that the had been injured. The surgeon who attended the lad states that the act probably saved him from bleeding to death.
