SWIMMING BATHS.

MAYOR CHRYSTALL is to be commended for his efforts in connection' with the construction of public swimming baths alongside the river bank. At last Council meeting a resolution was passed authorising Mr Edwards,, a Palmerston engineer, to prepare plans and specifications for swimming baths. Mr Edwards has had a good deal of experience in this class of work, and is familiar with the river frontage. His offer is a generous one, i.e., that if the work is not proceeded with there will not be a charge for his services. We believe the local public, Harbour Board, and School Committee will assist the Council in every way possible to establish the baths —a very necessary work.
