SURRENDERS WITHOUT A STRUGGLE.

Auckland, Feb. 2.

Joseph Thomas Christie,the criminal lunatic, who escaped from custody on the Main Trunk express on Wednesday, was recaptured at noon to-day. Two detectives, acting on information that Christie had been seen in one of the suburbs, discovered him walking on the road. He surrendered without a struggle, and was taken to the Mental Hospital. He had been living on poultry and vegetables, Vhich ho had obtained from residences, and had'oodked thein in a Maori oven.
