SEASIDE NOTES.
Several residents were taken over the bar the other evening by Mr Percy Daniell, and wore afforded a magnificent sight—a glorious sunset at sea. The sea was as cairn as a mill pond. A school of porpoises has been, disporting outside the bar for some time. It is very interesting to watch them from the beach as they gambol in the breakers.
The County Engineer, accompanied by Cr. W; E. Barber, inspected the approach to the river beach from the county road yesterday. Mr Lawton, pilot, was also present. The cutting was inspected where, it is proposed to put down concrete. The engineer advised what should be done to make a good job of this treacherous and sand-swept entrance. The County will contribute the gravel necessary for the work, and the Bench Improvement Committee will find the cement and labour. I would recommend the Council to level and widen The road between Langley’s and the cutting, as congested traffic at week-ends makes it difficult to steer a vehicle along. The Methodists intend holding an enleriainment in the church at an earlv dale.
The Salvation Army held an open air service on the river foreshore last evening.
Mr Lawton, harbourmaster, met with a painful accident to his knee the other evening, through a fall from his trap.
Owing to the extra traffic, the road to the seaside from the Lady’s Mile is getting very rutty., Alayor Chrystail and family are now resident here. The motor ears collected here on Sunday must have represented several thousands of pounds value.
The tennis court on one of the (hits behind the sand dunes Is well patronised every day.
A shark 1 ine, attached to two iron bars driven (irmly into the sand, on the sea shore, is regularly bailed, but so far nothing Juts been hooked.
