Avllmr Johns, a religions objector, who escji])od from prison at 110-lon lon irn, it ml w;is recaptured on Thnrsdiiy at Raurimu, made a second escape last evening, when the gaoler was driving the prisoner to prison in a trail from Waimarino Station, lie had to gel ont to open the gales. Johns saw his opportunity to escape, grabbed the reins, drove for three miles, and escaped to the hush. Prisoner was, again captured last night, and brought; to Taumarunni to-day for (rial, before Justices, when he was sentenced to a further twelve months’ imprisonment in Mount Eden Caol. Prisoner, who was formerly sentenced to two years, made the statement in Court that he was always prepared to do non-combatant work here or in France, but not under military control. He was afraid that under military control he might lie called on to carry ammunition to kill people, and the Bible said “Thou shall not kill.”
