AT THE SEASIDE.

There was a great influx of visitors at the seaside on Sunday. Quite a number of ears, besides several motor ’busses, came from Palmerston and elsewhere. The riverside and ocean front presented quite an animated appearance. Some good catches of sehnapper have been recorded recently, but bounders have not been plentiful. Bucketsful of pipis have been obtained in the river bed near the beacons. A whale was sighted in the open sea on several occasions last week, and porpoises could be seen disporting in the breakers. Some have even seen a shark or two. Owing to the ■misbehaviour of several young bloods, quite a number of surf bathers prefer to disrobe and dress behind the shelter of driftwood, rather than risk the dressing shelters. Religious services are fairly well attended in the church on Sunday evenings. Last Sunday night Mr G. Huntley, of Foxton, occupied the pulpit. Among those present I noticed Foxton’s Mayor and ex-Mayor Sides. It will be remembered that the church building was tire generous gift of the latter. Mr Stiles also presided at the organ. The singing of Sankey’s hymns was very hearty. It is a good thing to have a place for public worship at the seaside, where one ean spend an hour in quiet meditation of higher things, things.

Mis Grant is kept particularly busy in attending to the requirements and satisfying the demands of residents in foodstuffs and postal and telephone communications. Butchers, bakers, and milk vendors visit the Jmach daily, and Foxton grocers cater for the wants of seasides, and deliver the goods.
