FIRE.
A five-roomed house in Futter Street, owned and occupied by Mr H. H. Hart, together with the whole of the contents, was totally destroyed by lire on Saturday night. It appears that Mr Hart returned home about 10.40 o’clock on Saturday night and lit a fire in an open grate in the dining room. He went outside, .and on returning a few minutes later found the room in flames. It is surmised that the wind blew the flames. from the grate to the mantle drape and wall paper. He gave the alarm, and although neighbours were quickly on the scene it was found impossible to save anything, as there was a high wind blowing and the building was soon a mass of flames. The building Was totally destroyed within half an hour.. Mrs Hart and family are at present in Christchurch on holiday, having left Foxtoh on the 17th instant. The building was insured for £3OO, and the/furniture for £IOO, both in the State office. Mr Hart is a heavy loser.
