BOWLING.
Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, the “gala day” held on the local green yesterday under the auspices of the Manawatu Bowling Centre was a great success, the bowlers spending a most enjoyable time. Visitors were present from the following clubs; —Palmerston North (twenty), ! Terrace End (four), Feilding (four), and Shannon (four), and twelve local players took part in the morning, and twenty in the afternoon. The green was in perfect order, and its good condition was very favourably commented upon by the visitors. Of course, on account of the rain, it was heavy, but had the weather conditions been favourable it would have played perfectly. In this connection Mr Rankin, of Terrace End, in returning thanks at the conclusion of play for the Foxton Club’s hospitality, said that he was agreeably surprised to find that Foxton possessed such a fine green. Other visitors also complimented the club on its green. Just before play commenced in the morning a, drizzling rain came on, and continued until midday, but the play was gone on with, the bowlers being clothed in overcoats. In the afternoon the weather cleared. The visitors, on arrival, were welcomed by the secretary, in the unavoidable absence of the president of the club. Morning and afternoon tea was served in a marquee alongside the pavilion, and was provided by Messrs Dr. Mandl and J. Stewart, and served by the ladies, and to the ladies, and the gentlemen who provided the refreshments the Club expresses its thanks.
