A party of Tommies, including Geordie and Bill, were partaking of bully beef and biscuits in the trenches, They sighed as they chewed, and then Geordie burst out: “Wey, hinnies, just think o’t, two erhs (eggs), fewer slices o’ breed, an’ a pot for ’alf a franc!” There was a sudden silence for a short time, when Bill asked: “Where can ye get aall thaat?” “No pleyce,” answered Geordie, sadly. “No pleyce. But thoo just think o’t!”
