At a certain popular seaside resort in the south of England there are some Tyenside soldiers billeted, and one of tlem in course of conversation with some natives of the place, remarked that it was such a pity' that their beach was all shingle. “You should see the beautiful Northumberland sands,” he added. “Oh,” saidnne of the natives, scornfully, “we also had beautiful sand unitl you fellows collared it all for sandbags!”
