Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 1917. RIVER BANK INDECENCY.
COMPLAINTS have been made to us in reference to (lie conduct and language of certain boys who indulge in bathing on (he river bank near the boating shed. Some of these lads appear to have lost all sense of decency, if we are informed correctly. They play about the bank in a nude state, and while thus disporting themselves ifsc language of a disgusting nature. Other disgusting acts are also committed in the locality. Now, the riverside is traversed by « number of people on Sunday afternoons, but (he ponduet we have referred to will wake the neighbourhood tapu - except for these young hoodlums. It is an offence to bathe in a public place without being clothed in the regulation dress, and an example should be made of those offending. No one objects to see youth disporting in the water, provided decency is observed, Further, there is no dressing shed in the vicinity. Steps, however, should be taken immediately to cheek this sort of thing, at least for the sake of younger children.
