TENNIS.
On Tuesday afternoon last an interesting tennis match took place on the local State School court, when a team of boys from Rangiotu school, in charge of Mr Walker, head teacher, met a team from the Foxton school club. The local boys were successful in winning the match, but the games were not at all one-sided as the Rangiotu boys put up a good tight —well contested rallies being the order of the afternoon. Afternoon tea was provided by the boys and girls of the school tennis club, and on fhe Avhole a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. A return match will be played at Rangiotu to-day. Following are the scores; — SINGLES. Rangiotu. Foxton. H. Jewell 16 Kere Hirini 20 B. AA’illiamsonM Roy Burnett 20 Don Glendinning 6 Ken Robinson 20 Norm. Mr Hornblow, Chairman of the local State School Committee, has signified his intention of donating to the school tennis club a shield, upon which the names of the champion boy and girl will be inscribed each year. This should naturally prove a great stimulus to the Youthful players, and the Head Teacher desires to thank Mr Hornblow for his generous offer.
