FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

A public mooting of those interested in the Society was hold last night, at the Council Chamber, to consider proposals to amalgamate with the National War Funds Council, It was pointed out that the Council was very strong financially, and that all local institutions would work in exactly the same way as at present collecting funds and administering relief under the supervision of the Council. Each district joining the Council retains full and absolute control of its own expenditure, the Council merely laying down the general lines so as to secure as far as possible uniformity throughout the country. On any Society amalgamating, the Council from date of joining accepts the entire responsibility for soldiers and their dependents in the district, irrespective of the amount of the Society's funds. This is very important to a district holding limited funds. It was decided lo recommend lb<» Society lo join the Council, and to appoint a sub-committee consisting of Rev. Raine, Dr. Mandl and Mr A. J. Kellow, who will make very close enquiries with the idea of ascertaining the opinion of kindred societies regarding the Council and the probability of their joining same, and to obtain from those Societies already -working under the national scheme the result of their arrangements This committee is insimeted to make a report to a public meeting to 1m held at the end of February next, which meeting will come to a final decision op the proposed amalgamation. The Patriotic Shop was open on Saturday last in charge of Mcadnmes McMurray and Renton, who did good business, The weight of the sheep was lbs., and was guessed by five competitors, ' The cuke competition (number of grains of Client in a bottle) was won by Mr A. J. Kellow, with 66(1, the correct number being 660. Gifts are acknowledged from Mcsdamos A. Ross, Patterson, John, Robinson, Renton, C.
